Letter from President, Keri Schoenbrun
As founder of Developmental Connections, I am so pleased to announce the promotion of Gina Apperson to Executive Director. Ms. Apperson’s history with our organization, coupled with her boundless talent and energy, ensures an exciting future for the students and families we serve.
When Developmental Connections was established in 2010, we could not have imagined how meaningful a journey we embarked on. Gina Apperson was one of our very first volunteers. She lent us her creativity and design talent to craft our organization’s logo, a stunning representation of our very important mission. Making it official, she joined Developmental Connections as our first full-time employee after she graduated Elon University with a Bachelor’s in Strategic Communications.
As Project Manager, Gina started out as a quiet, but powerful force behind our growth. Under her supervision, our flagship program, Marvin’s Club, grew from a small pilot program to a meaningful endeavor serving over 70 students, 25 teachers, and countless parents across 7 area schools. Our inaugural fundraiser, Kids Connect 5K, matured under her tutelage, becoming our organization’s largest and most important source of funds. Entering her third year with our organization, Gina has so naturally transitioned from a reliable, behind-the-scenes contributor, to a visionary leader with the voice, passion, intellect and creativity to take Developmental Connections to the next level.
Please join me in congratulating Gina and welcoming her into her new role. I know she is eager to maintain the great relationships she has forged over the past three years, but to also connect with many more of you as she continues to foster our critical mission.
With pride and gratitude,
President, Developmental Connections
Get to Know Gina Apperson, Executive Director
Gina Apperson, born and raised in Loudoun County, VA, has a long history of community service in our area. Active in her church’s youth organization since 2007, she has served as a small group leader and helped with local service projects. She began working closely with children with special needs at the age of 14. While she did not have any formal training, her diligence and intuition made her an incredible asset the families she touched. Graduating eighth in her class from Stone Bridge High School, she went on to Elon University where she completed her degree in Strategic Communications. During her time Elon, she stayed actively involved with Developmental Connections; served in leadership roles in Live Oak Communications agency, yearbook and her sorority; and spent a semester abroad in Spain. Upon graduation, she stayed close to her roots and chose to become Developmental Connections’ first employee. She has been a force of growth and commitment since her start with the organization. In her free time, she enjoys blogging, reading, exploring the outdoors and spending time with friends.
